Special Topics

Life As Inspiration – Teen Creative Writing

Age: 13- 16

Find your voice! Get creative while also adopting structure and discipline to revise and rework your content to final product.  Learn about key components of stories – character, plot, style, pacing, and use life experience to inform your storytelling.

One week Camp. Monday-Friday 5:00pm-7:30pm.
Value: $175

Young Storytellers

Age: 9-12

For enthusiastic readers and writers!  Camp begins with a description of key genres and encourages a creative brainstorming session.  Students work on their ideas in a collaborative environment, share with the group and instructor, receive feedback and refine.  Student writers will learn to move from initial concept through a phase of revision and refinement to create the best possible end result.

One week Camp. Monday-Friday 5:00pm-7:00pm.
Value: $145

“Whose Rhyme Is It Anyway?” – Teen Spoken Word

Age: 13-16

Participants take part in an interactive team workshop consisting of storytelling/poetic improv techniques, by creating theme-based community and identity poems. Stories are reflections of our experiences and identity. This camp will help participants understand “getting out of their heads and out of their own way” in order to make their ideas come to fruition.

Each teammate will create a community poem and an identity poem using a specific theme decided by the teams. Each team will go through editing and performance workshops to polish their poems. Afterward, each team will create a vision board that reflects the community and identity poems.

Participants will perform their stories while displaying their artwork in showcase style, concluding with their own impact statements about the experience.

One week Camp. Monday-Friday 6:00pm-8:00pm.
Value: $185

Feminism for Girls

Age: 11-15

What does it mean to be a boy?  What does it mean to be a man (and/or a woman)?  What does it mean to be a good person? As a class, we will use the week to explore what the differences are between sex and gender, how we perform and react to gender expression, and how our family, our culture, and the media we consume shapes the way that we understand and perpetuate gender stereotypes.

One week Camp. Monday-Friday 6pm-8:30pm.
Value: $180
