June 10 – August 30, 2019
Full Day: 7:30am – 6:30pm
This casual alternative to regular camp is for older kids seeking more independent time than traditional camps might offer. Transitioning from tween to teen brings a healthy desire to be more self-directed. Academia’s camp offers adult oversight and care, while allowing children a more open and flexible summer program.
Children arrive at Academia with anything they want from home (music, books, hobby activities). They spend time hanging out with peers in Academia’s new space dedicated to older children, and also getting out and about in Oak Park in the same way they might if they were home with their parents. Trips include the Oak Park Public Library, picnics in Scoville Park, visits to the Book Table and other retailers in Oak Park, Lake Street Theater movie outings, as well as onsite movies and documentaries.
We have art supplies galore for children who are so inclined, and kids can take part in the same scheduled field trips as the World Explorers summer campers to restaurants, Creativita, bowling etc. Once a week, we’ll head downtown by train to Daley Park and other areas to explore Chicago. Sign up and send us your child’s ideas for how they would like to spend their time!
Academia is a technology free zone for younger kids’ camps. ‘Tween to Teen’ have more flexible options guided by parental preference.
Optional small group Spanish class for 30 minutes a day.
Pricing – $345/week. Children with a younger sibling enrolled in World Explorers Camp on the same schedule – $275/week.
Daily stipend for parents to provide children for local restaurants and coffee shops – $6-8/day.
